Apple Intelligence rolls out in India, brings integrated ChatGPT, Genmoji, and a more natural, conversational Siri!

Here’s the scoop

Apple’s AI footprint is expanding, and India is now on the map. The latest iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 updates introduce Apple Intelligence to more regions, now supporting localised English (India), Singaporean English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. The update folds in ChatGPT, visual recognition, and creative AI tools, all with privacy at its core, Apple says. According to the company, these features shape themselves around users’ language preferences, aiming to make interactions smooth as clockwork.

We've gathered the latest Apple Intelligence features, which are now rolling out to eligible iPhones, iPads, and Macs, for you, dear reader!

Siri gets more natural and conversational

With Apple Intelligence, Apple says, Siri is now more natural, flexible, and integrated into the system. A new glowing light design wraps around the screen when Siri is active on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay. On Mac, Siri can be placed anywhere on the desktop for easy access. You can now type to Siri on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, switching between text and voice to speed up tasks. Siri’s improved language understanding lets it follow along even if you stumble over words, and it maintains context across requests. With enhanced product knowledge, Siri can now answer thousands of questions about Apple features and settings, from screen recording tips to sharing Wi-Fi passwords.

ChatGPT integration across Siri and writing tools

Apple is also integrating ChatGPT into Siri and writing tools across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, giving access to its expertise and image- and document-understanding features without switching apps. Siri can now suggest using ChatGPT for certain tasks and provide direct responses.

With Compose, you can ask ChatGPT to generate content and add images to their writing. Apple says you’ll have full control over when to enable ChatGPT integration and what data is shared. No ChatGPT account is required by default, and OpenAI will not store requests or use data for model training when used without an account. IP addresses are also obscured for privacy. Connecting an account applies OpenAI's data-use policies.

Personalised Genmoji

Genmoji adds fun and personal flair to conversations. Simply type a description into the emoji keyboard to generate a Genmoji, with multiple versions to pick from. You can also create one inspired by a friend or family member using photos from your library. Customise your Genmoji with accessories like hats or sunglasses, or reflect specific themes and activities. Just like regular emojis, Genmoji can be added to Messages, shared as stickers, or used in Tapback reactions.

Bring messages to life with Image Playground

Image Playground lets you easily create fun images with themes, outfits, accessories, and locations. You can add your text or even use photos of family and friends to generate custom visuals. It works directly in Messages for quick image creation in chats and is also available in apps like Freeform and Keynote, with a dedicated app for a more focused experience.

Turn Notes into visuals with Image Wand

The Notes app now offers new tools to make note-taking more visual and dynamic. With Image Wand, you can easily create images within your note using the text or visuals already there. Simply circle a rough sketch, and Image Wand will turn it into a polished image. You can circle space, and it will generate an image based on nearby context, using on-device models to analyse the text. You can choose from styles like Animation, Illustration, and Sketch to bring your notes to life.

Priority messages and smart summaries

Priority Messages in Mail highlights urgent emails, like same-day invites or boarding passes, at the top of your inbox. You can preview summaries without opening messages, and for long threads, use Summarise for key details. Smart Reply suggests quick responses and identifies unanswered questions.

Notification summaries on the Lock Screen let you view key details at a glance, while Priority Notifications prioritise urgent alerts. The new Focus, Reduce Interruptions limits notifications to the essentials.

In the Notes and Phone apps, you can record, transcribe, and summarise audio. During calls, participants are notified, and after the call, Apple Intelligence generates a summary of key points.

Learn more about surroundings with Visual Intelligence

The new visual intelligence feature is said to help you identify objects and places. It can create calendar events from flyers, translate text, and recognize plants and animals. Access it by holding Camera Control on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, or by customizing controls on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16e. Users can also search Google for item locations or use ChatGPT for explanations of complex diagrams. Control is in the user's hands, with full management over third-party tool usage and data sharing.

Privacy at the core, powered by Apple Silicon

Apple claims Apple Intelligence is built with privacy at its core, using on-device processing for many models to ensure user data stays secure. For more complex requests, Private Cloud Compute scales the system by tapping into larger, server-based models while still protecting privacy. These servers, powered by Apple silicon, ensure that data is never stored or exposed.

Independent experts can inspect the code running on Apple silicon servers to verify Apple’s privacy commitment. This combination of on-device and cloud-based processing marks a significant leap forward in AI privacy, offering intelligence users can trust.
