IPL 2025 kicks off today! Here's how to watch, key points on enjoying the cricket fest

IPL 2025 can be streamed on JioHotstar, although it isn't for free anymore

The Indian Premier League cricket tournament for 2025 is upon us! Kicking off today March 22, and continuing till May 25, the Indian Premier League is among the most watched cricket tournaments in India and the world over, with cricket matches taking place at various stadiums across India. The franchise-based tournament features 10 teams from different parts of India, including favourite teams such as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Superkings, Kolkata Knightriders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals, which have been a part of IPL since its inception.

IPL 2025 will be starting today March 22 at 5:30pm, with the first match between 2024's defending champions Kolkata Knightriders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The tournament will follow a league stage, followed by a knock-out stage and the final towards the end. League stage matches will be taking place every day from March 22 to May 18, followed by the knock-out stage games and final which will be in Kolkata.

IPL 2025: How to watch in India

The IPL 2025 tournament will be streaming on JioHotstar in India. After two years of being made available to stream for free on the JioCinema platform, IPL 2025 will now be available only to paid subscribers of the JioHotstar platform. Notably, JioCinema and Hotstar merged earlier this year to create JioHotstar, the biggest streaming platform in India. 

Plans for JioHotstar start at Rs. 149 per three months for the mobile-only, ad-supported plan, going up to Rs. 1499 per year for the ad-free premium plan. Notably, Jio mobile subscribers can get free access to JioCinema to stream the IPL with certain recharge plans, priced at Rs. 299 and above.

Streaming on JioCinema comes with a few tech benefits, including 4K resolution on supported devices and the ability to change camera angles and access info feeds while sreaming on select platforms. With a lot of people streaming JioCinema on mobile, many of these features will be available on mobile platforms as well.
