Apple has unveiled its newest piece of silicon, the M5 chip, powering the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro. Touted as ‘the next major leap in AI computing,’ the M5 focuses on delivering dramatically improved machine learning speeds, higher power efficiency, and deeper integration with Apple Intelligence, the company’s in-house generative AI platform.
Built using Apple’s third-generation 3nm architecture, the M5 features a 10-core CPU and GPU setup, with each GPU core equipped with its own Neural Accelerator. Apple says this new chip achieves up to 3.5 times the AI performance of the M4, and up to six times faster than the original M1, claiming to set a new benchmark for on-device intelligence. Here's everything announced:
The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the first Mac to debut Apple’s new M5 chip, and the company claims it’s not just a speed upgrade, it’s an intelligence boost. With M5’s on-device AI capabilities, the laptop can now handle large language models (LLMs) directly, making it a useful tool for developers, researchers, and creative professionals. Apple says the new MacBook Pro offers up to 24 hours of battery life, 1.6x faster graphics, and double the SSD performance of its M4 predecessor. It also ships with macOS Tahoe, Apple’s newest desktop operating system, and features enhanced Apple Intelligence integration, a more vivid Liquid Retina XDR display, and a space black finish.
The 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro starts at $1599 (approx. Rs. 1,40,500), with preorders live now and sales beginning October 22.
The iPad Pro arrives as its thinnest and lightest model to date, powered by the all-new M5 chip. The company claims the tablet now offers desktop-grade AI performance for creative apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, while introducing a brighter display and improved battery life. With the M5, iPad Pro you can also tap into Apple Intelligence, the same suite of on-device generative AI tools found on the Mac, bringing smarter writing assistance, image generation, and more.
The M5 iPad Pro starts at $999 (approx. Rs. 87,821), with preorders open now and shipping beginning October 22.
Apple also announced an upgraded Vision Pro, featuring the M5 chip and a new Dual Knit Band for comfort. The company says that the M5 dramatically improves rendering, battery life (now up to 2.5 hours of use), and AI-driven features in visionOS 26, such as new Personas, real-time translation, and spatial scene generation. The device also supports 120Hz refresh rates and sharper visuals thanks to improved micro-OLED displays.
The M5-powered Vision Pro will launch on October 22 and will cost $3499 (approx. Rs. 3,07,593).
