Nike has officially unveiled Project Amplify, an innovation that brings powered assistance to everyday movement. Designed to help athletes run or walk faster and farther with less effort, Project Amplify combines robotics, biomechanics, and Nike’s sport innovation heritage.

The first-generation prototype features a lightweight motor, a drive belt mechanism, and a rechargeable cuff battery, all integrated into a carbon-fiber-plated running shoe. The shoe can also be worn independently without the powered system. Nike says the technology is meant to augment natural lower-leg and ankle movement, offering an extra boost during walking, jogging, or running.

Developed in collaboration with robotics firm Dephy and tested by over 400 athletes across more than 2.4 million steps, Project Amplify’s system is inspired by the concept of e-bikes for running, providing mechanical assistance while keeping the natural rhythm of movement. Nike emphasises that Project Amplify is not designed for elite competitors, but for runners and walkers who want to go from a 12-minute mile to a 10-minute mile pace with less effort.

While still in the testing phase, Nike plans a consumer launch in the coming years, positioning Project Amplify as a new category of powered athletic gear that merges movement, mechanics, and motivation.
