Qualcomm has just taken the wraps off its latest mobile platform - the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 - and it's shaping up to be a significant upgrade for your mid-range smartphone. This new bit of kit is designed to give your mobile a proper kick in the pants, with a claim of boosting performance across a range of tasks. Qualcomm is promising enhancements to everything from your everyday tasks to more demanding stuff like gaming and photography, with a focus on making your phone faster and more responsive. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 aims to deliver a smoother, slicker experience, whatever you're throwing at it - for mid-range phones, that is.

Qualcomm is banging on about some serious performance gains, too. We're talking a 27 percent jump in CPU grunt, graphics that are 30 percent zippier, and AI smarts that are a whopping 65 percent better. That should translate to smoother gameplay, snappier apps, and AI that's actually useful, not just a gimmick.

Speaking of AI, this chip is packing some proper capabilities. It'll be able to handle things like AI assistants and those fancy large language models (LLMs) directly on your phone, which is pretty neat. There's even some stable diffusion image generation stuff, which means your phone should be able to create images from text prompts.

Phone makers like Honor and Vivo are already lining up to use this new Snapdragon chip in their upcoming devices, so expect to see it popping up in stores soon. Honor is promising ‘unparalleled performance’, and Vivo is talking about ‘innovative and efficient mobile experiences’. We will find out in time how they deliver, and you can hear about it right here, so stay tuned.
