Air India Integrates Apple AirTag support for baggage tracking

Keeping tabs on your luggage has never been easier!

Losing track of your luggage just got a lot harder—at least if you’re flying Air India. The airline has become the first in Asia to integrate Apple’s AirTag with its baggage-tracking system and mobile app, letting travellers keep tabs on their bags using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

This latest upgrade builds on Air India’s existing baggage-tracking tools, which provide real-time airport data via its app and website. If you’ve added your flight to the ‘My Trips’ section, baggage updates pop up automatically after check-in. Or, the ‘Track My Bags’ tab on the website or a quick scan of your baggage receipt’s barcode will also do the trick.

How to use the AirTag feature?

If a checked-in bag with an AirTag goes missing, guests should report it at Air India’s Baggage Counter, where staff will assist in filing a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).

They must then generate a ‘Share Item Location’ link via Apple’s ‘Find My’ app and submit it through the Air India mobile app or website. On the app, this can be done via the ‘Customer Support Portal’ under ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage.’ On the website, guests can access the same section and provide the AirTag link along with the PIR number.

After submission, guests receive an acknowledgment email with a baggage status link, while Air India’s airport teams use the AirTag location to track and return the bag. For privacy, location sharing ends once the bag is recovered or expires after seven days. The feature requires Apple devices running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later.
