At its ‘It’s Glowtime’ event, Apple not only introduced the Watch Series 10 but also unveiled the AirPods 4, its latest leap in wearable audio. These new AirPods offer an upgraded listening experience, now featuring Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) even in the standard model. They’ve also been equipped with advanced machine-learning capabilities and gesture controls for a more intuitive user experience. Let’s look at what makes the AirPods 4 stand out.
Along with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), the AirPods also feature a dedicated Transparency Mode, enhancing your auditory experience with greater control. They’re powered by the new Apple H2 chip and feature a redesigned acoustic architecture that promises richer sound quality. Alongside personalised spatial audio, adaptive audio, and conversational awareness, Apple also claims that these are the most comfortable AirPods ever. A redesigned bud shape ensures a better fit for a wider range of ear shapes.
Apple’s new base model TWS earbuds are also now equipped with machine learning, enabling gesture-based controls like nodding to answer calls. They also feature voice isolation and force sensors, akin to the flagship AirPods Pro (2nd generation). The updated USB Type-C charging case extends playtime to 30 hours and now supports wireless charging, as per Apple.
Alongside the AirPods 4, Apple has refreshed its AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with a suite of health-focused features. The new in-built hearing test lets you assess your hearing ability directly from the earbuds. Additionally, they now support hearing aid functionality through a new Noise app and personalised hearing profiles. And, for those who prefer over-the-head headphones, the AirPods Max are now available in new colourways – Blue, Midnight, and Starlight. These premium headphones continue to offer personalised spatial audio for an immersive listening experience.
As for the price, the AirPods 4 come in two versions – one with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and one without. The non-ANC AirPods 4 start at $129 (approximately ₹11,000) in the US, while the model featuring ANC is priced at $179 (around ₹15,000).
