AMD's Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT are here and it undercuts Nvidia’s RTX 5070!

Competition is getting hot in the middle

AMD has finally lifted the lid on its next-generation graphics cards, the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. Based on the company's new RDNA 4 architecture, these cards promise a whole new level of performance, with improved ray tracing, AI acceleration, and support for 4K displays.

Both cards pack a whopping 16GB of GDDR6 memory, so you can crank those graphics settings up to the max without fear of running out of VRAM. Compared to the previous generation RX 7900 GRE, the RX 9070 delivers over 20% more performance on average at 1440p resolution, while the RX 9070 XT extends that lead to over 40%.

But it's not just about raw performance. AMD has also made some significant architectural improvements that should benefit gamers and creators alike. For example, the new Raytracing Accelerators deliver over twice the throughput per compute unit compared to the previous generation.

And if you're into AI, you'll be pleased to hear that the 2nd Generation AI Accelerators are up to eight times faster than those in RDNA 3.

Of course, no new graphics card launch would be complete without some new and improved software features. AMD has delivered on that front too, with the introduction of AMD FSR 4, an ML-powered upscaling technology that promises to deliver high-quality boosted frames even under the most demanding workloads.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are expected to be available from March 6, 2025. The RX 9070 XT has an SEP (Single Exit Price) of $599 USD, while the RX 9070 has an SEP of $549 USD. For reference, the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 launched at $749 and $549 respectively. Indian prices and availability will follow soon.
