BYD Seal launched in India for a starting price of ₹41 lakh

Performance, style, and a dash of electric magic!

BYD has debuted its Seal electric sedan in India, priced from ₹41 lakh for the entry-level Dynamic variant to ₹53 lakh for the top-spec Performance AWD variant (ex-showroom, India). This launch marks BYD's third model in India, with the Seal being brought as a full import.

The Seal takes design inspiration from the Ocean X concept of 2021 and follows BYD’s “ocean aesthetics” design philosophy. It's got a sleek all-glass roof reminiscent of a coupe, integrated door handles, four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, swept-back LED headlamps with a C-shaped element extending into the bumper, and a striking full-width LED light bar at the rear. The 19-inch alloy wheels definitely add to its allure. In India, the Seal is available in four colours – Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, and Cosmos Black.

Inside, the BYD Seal has a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display in the centre console, accompanied by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a heads-up display for the driver. The interior design has flowing lines and textured surfaces. The centre console is home to a crystal toggle drive selector and physical controls for functions like the heated windscreen and audio system volume. Additionally, there are two wireless charging pads. The rear seats offer a 60:40 split-folding function, complemented by a powered tailgate and a 50-litre frunk for additional storage.

More features include an 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, heated and cooled front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone AC, 10 airbags, ABS with hill hold, automatic wipers, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS tech. It has also received a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The Seal offers two battery options – 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh, both featuring BYD's patented blade technology. The smaller battery is coupled with a single motor on the rear axle, delivering 204hp and 310Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 510km (NEDC cycle). Models equipped with the larger 82.5kWh battery are offered in both RWD and AWD configurations. In RWD, the Seal delivers 312hp and 360Nm of torque, while the dual-motor AWD setup boosts that to 530hp and 670Nm of torque. The claimed range is 650km for RWD and 580km for AWD. The top-spec variant can accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.8 seconds.

The Seal supports charging speeds of up to 150kW, allowing for a 10-80 percent charge in 37 minutes, as per BYD. Using a regular 11kW AC charger, it takes approximately 8.6 hours to fully charge from 0-100 percent. Additionally, the Seal is equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging capability, enabling it to power external devices, so you can use it for camping and outdoor activities.
