Computex 2025: MSI Claw A8 is the brand’s first AMD-powered handheld

Aims to scratch the Steam Deck?

MSI has introduced the Claw A8, its latest handheld gaming PC and the first in the series to be equipped with an AMD processor. At its core is the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, a next-generation chip tailored for handheld gaming, building upon the foundation laid by the earlier Z1 series.

Staying consistent with its roots, the device runs Windows 11 and comes bundled with MSI’s proprietary software for performance customisation and system diagnostics. Alongside this launch, MSI also revealed the Claw 8 AI Plus “Polar Tempest” edition, which can be configured with up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor and a spacious 2TB NVMe SSD. This model stands out visually thanks to its distinctive “glittering” white finish, as described by MSI.

The newly announced MSI Claw A8 comes equipped with an 8-inch Full HD display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, paired with up to 24GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of storage via an M.2 SSD. Connectivity and audio are covered with two USB-C ports and dual speakers, while colour options include a white finish and a lime green variant.
