EA Sports’ FIFA 23 World Cup mode: Play along with the FIFA World Cup 2022

It’s about damn time!

With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, it makes complete sense that EA Sports has the same idea. So it’s time for us to make way for FIFA 23's free World Cup mode. The deep dive trailer has unveiled the latest championship-themed content coming to this football sim in order to mark the celebration of the upcoming 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup.

The free new DLC unlocks new cinematics, single and online multiplayer tournaments and a full season of Ultimate Team content, as well as a FIFA World Cup Live mode, which lets you play along with real-time fixtures.

This brand-new segment in FIFA 23 will sport a World Cup-themed interface that lets you pick between several game modes. You have the tried-and-tested 1v1 kick-off match, which can be played locally with friends or the AI. You can amp it up a notch with a Knockout Round as you pick a team and play a one-off FIFA World Cup fixture. This extends to the tournament mode, where you can pick between the 32 qualified teams and attempt to lead them to glory yourself, either offline or in the online seasons-like segment. You can also create custom tournaments that allow you to add teams and players that didn’t qualify.

Oh, it keeps getting better! From November 21, the live mode will enable you to connect to real-time World Cup fixtures. This lets you follow along with the tournament as results, matches, statistics, and lineups get updated at the end of each match day. This mode has three parts– ‘Featured Quickplay', allowing for a one-off match against local friends or AI. ‘Online Quickplay' which pits you against the past, present, or upcoming fixtures against an online friend. Lastly, the ‘Your FIFA World Cup' mode, which allows you to “inherit a team's FIFA World Cup progress into Tournament Mode and write your own history.”

As promised the Ultimate Team segment FIFA 23 will intertwine the experience, starting with limited-time items that allow you to swap upgraded players from your chosen nation into the club. In addition to this, Heroes and Icons, who were World Cup legends of their nations in their time, will be available, alongside kits, decorations, and other cosmetics. Pretty cool, right?

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will also be available on EA SPORTS FIFA 23 via a post-launch update at no additional cost in the build-up to the tournament in 2023. The FIFA 2023 World Cup mode will be available across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X from November 9th.
