Everything we know about OnePlus Fold

Fold and unfold, get on a roll!

OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone: the fashionable latecomer to the foldable phone party! While other brands have been trying their hand with foldable devices, OnePlus seems to be taking its own sweet time to join the bandwagon. Maybe they are meticulously crafting an out-of-the-world device (or they’re just busy binging, who knows). Nevertheless, we have some intriguing tidbits of info about OnePlus’s foldable phone. Thanks to the ever-reliable grapevine of leaks, rumours, and goss, we can piece together a picture of what might be in store for you, dear reader!

Earlier this year, OnePlus made its first foldable device official and tweeted about it. The brand further shed light on the device while presenting the OnePlus 11 Concept at MWC 2023. Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlus, said, “Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn't settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market.”

A recently leaked design render, via industry insider Steve ‘OnLeaks’ Hemmerstoffer‘s tweet, shows Hasselblad-tuned cameras in a circular module and a faux leather back panel. The circular rear camera module, we think, is the most eye-catching feature of the device as of yet. It supposedly includes three cameras, including a periscope zoom lens. The collaboration with Hasselblad is also evidently expected to continue. Plus the image also suggests an expansive display with thin bezels and a hole-punch cutout housing the front camera. Read more about it here.

The phone is expected to feature the OnePlus alert slider and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. Details about the exterior and interior displays are still unknown, but there might be different finish options.

Rumours are rife that the OnePlus Fold will feature an 8in QHD+ OLED primary display with a 120Hz refresh rate just like the Oppo Find N3. Under the hood, it could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, accompanied by up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. And for keeping the phone up and running there could be a 4,800mAh battery. According to noted leaker Max Jambor, OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone could arrive a bit earlier in August, but we can't be sure of that at the moment.
