Fujifilm X half is a compact digital camera designed as a modern tribute to half-frame film photography

A blend of analogue charm and digital ease!

Fujifilm’s latest X Half is a compact digital camera that pays homage to half-frame film shooters. It features an 18MP Type 1 sensor in a retro-inspired body, designed to spark nostalgia while keeping the experience digital and fresh. There’s also a manual film-wind lever for that old-school feel and a special Film Camera Mode that dials up the vintage vibes.

Once you pick a Film Simulation and choose a roll size—36, 54, or 72 shots—the X Half leans fully into its retro charm. You’ll wind the Frame Advance Lever after every shot, just like you would on a classic film camera. The magic continues in the companion app, where your photos are “developed” digitally. It even creates a vintage-style contact sheet for that full film throwback.

And, if you reset the camera or pop out the SD card mid-roll, your shots are still safely stored.

The X Half features two touch-enabled LCD screens. On the right, a compact display shows your selected Film Simulation and doubles up as a navigation pad for menu controls and settings. Meanwhile, the main 2.4-inch screen is vertically aligned— echoing the camera’s half-frame layout and pairing with the upright optical viewfinder.

This design enables Fujifilm’s unique “2-in-1” mode, letting you pair vertical stills and video clips into one creative sequence just by winding the Frame Advance Lever. You can also craft custom 2-in-1 combos using the X Half’s companion app, where you can tweak everything—from the dividing line’s colour and style to flipping the sides of each frame. It’s a retro-inspired creative playground, reimagined for the touchscreen generation.

The X half shoots only JPEGs—no RAW. It comes with 13 Film Simulations (like Provia, Acros, and Reala Ace), plus three retro filters –Light Leak, Halation, and Expired Film. You also get eight Instax-style effects, a Grain Effect for texture, and a Date Stamp for that classic timestamped look.

Hardware-wise, the backside-illuminated sensor is paired with a 10.8mm f/2.8 lens (32mm full-frame equivalent). The lens offers manual control with a dial and focus ring, plus autofocus via contrast detection, supporting single and continuous modes. Video recording is available but limited to 1440x1080 resolution.

Weighing 240 grams, it supports SD cards and connects through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C, with direct compatibility for Instax printers. It features a cold shoe (no connectivity) and a bright front LED flash, brighter than typical smartphone flashes.

Available in silver, grey, and black, the Fujifilm X half is priced at $849 (approx. Rs.73,005).
