Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the Project Maybach, a unique electric concept show car designed by the late Virgil Abloh and Gorden Wagener. This marks the fourth exclusive 'concept car' presented by Mercedes-Benz in India, following the emotive Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6, the AMG GT, and the Electric G-Class.
This two-seater, battery-electric off-road coupé blends Gran Turismo proportions, large off-road wheels, and unique attachments. The Project Maybach concept car, with its sandy monotone exterior and sturdy roll bar, embodies high-stakes adventure while retaining the sleek elegance of a luxury coupé.
The colour concept accentuates a utilitarian, pure, and monolithic style with its earthy sand tone, complemented by a sci-fi chrome grille. The roof rack, designed for occupant protection, is also spacious enough to accommodate a roof tent. The vehicle features modern reinterpretations of the iconic Mercedes-Maybach grille, housed behind a large glass panel, along with distinctive headlights and protruding tail lights.
Inside, the cabin is reimagined as a modular hotel room, with seats that convert into a first-class flatbed. The interior showcases polished aluminium paired with ultra-soft sandy leather, naturally tanned with coffee shells to minimise environmental impact. The jacquard houndstooth-finish headrests double as blankets, and cleverly designed compartments house reading lights. Additionally, the seats can be packed up and removed like suitcases, making them ideal for use in a high-end tent. The dashboard blends digital and analog elements, underscoring the car’s advanced design.
This project will be on display at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre until October 2024, offering visitors a chance to witness the work of the late Virgil Abloh.
