MWC 2025: HMD Fusion X1 is a Teenproof smartphone with full parental control

Because trusting teens with a smartphone is only wishful thinking!

HMD has unveiled the Fusion X1 at MWC 2025, positioning it as the first smartphone for teens. It’s part of The Better Phone Project and was created in partnership with Xplora—the brand known for making smartwatches for kids.

The Fusion X1 bakes parental controls right into the operating system, with access managed through an Xplora subscription. This means parents can fine-tune app and internet access—whether that’s blocking social media entirely or setting specific restrictions. A handy School Mode lets parents disable certain apps and features during lesson time.

Everything’s handled remotely via the Xplora app, so settings can be tweaked in real-time to suit the moment. The subscription also includes continuous location tracking, updating every 20 seconds, alongside safe zone alerts, remote device access, and an SOS emergency call function.

The Fusion X1 also has plenty to keep teens interested. It features a 108MP AI-powered camera, face and fingerprint unlock, a 5000mAh battery, and IP54 splash resistance. There’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack for those still rocking wired earbuds.

Like last year’s Fusion, HMD is sticking with its modular design approach, letting users swap in custom “Outfits” to tweak the phone’s functionality. The clip-on accessories add extra gaming controls or a built-in ring light for sharper selfies.

The HMD Fusion X1 lands in May 2025, priced at £229 ( approx. ₹25,185).
