Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite will power the next generation of Android flagships

The new chipset is the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 series

Qualcomm has announced the next generation of Snapdragon chipsets for smartphones at its annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2024, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset being revealed. Designed for the next generation of Android flagship smartphones which will be launched in late 2024 and 2025, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite is the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 series of chipsets, and represents the most powerful chipsets from Qualcomm for smartphones and other mobile devices. Similar to the Snapdragon X Elite chipsets for laptops and computers, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is the most premium chipset from the brand right now.

The chipset features the Oryon CPU with a custom eight-core processor, which promises up to 45 percent better performance and up to 44 percent better efficiency that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Adreno GPU also sees improvements designed to improve performance and speed by up to 40 percent.

Expectedly, it's also designed to work better with artificial intelligence solutions, enabling AI features in smartphones. As with earlier Snapdragon series chipsets, there are improvements to the ISP for camera performance, efficiency and power for gaming, audio improvements, and more. The fabrication process for the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset comes from TSMC, with the latter's 3nm process in use.

Manufacturers are already gearing up for their new smartphone launches with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and we can expect to see it on products such as the upcoming OnePlus 13. Realme has also announced the GT 7 Pro, which is being touted as the first smartphone in India to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
