Sony’s 85mm f/1.4 G Master lens has been quite popular among portrait photographers. Now the brand has announced an upgrade to this lens. The new FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II lens offers enhanced optical resolution and pleasing bokeh along with the latest technologies demanded by the video industry.
The lens uses two XA (extreme aspherical) and two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements to suppress aberrations and ensure corner-to-corner high resolution. Sony’s Nano AR Coating II technology eliminates flare and ghosting according to Sony. The lens features an 11-blade circular aperture to provide a pleasing, soft bokeh. According to Sony, the new lens offers three times faster tracking speed compared to the previous model and keeps up with the Sony Alpha 9 III’s 120fps continuous shooting. An XD linear focus motor minimises focus breathing and the lens supports in-body focus breathing compensation with compatible bodies. Two customisable focus hold buttons and an independent aperture ring offer intuitive control.
The latest iteration is 20 percent lighter than its predecessor at 642 grams and more compact. The lens accepts 77 mm filters and measures 84.7 mm (dia) x 107.3 mm. The front element of the lens is treated with fluorine coating, which makes it resistant to fingerprints, dust, oil, and other contaminants.
The Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II lens retails at ₹1,80,990.
