Acer Super ZX review

Budget Banger or Just Blah?

₹ 9,990

Acer’s decided that budget smartphones don’t have to look and feel like they were built in a shed. Enter the Acer Super ZX—a phone that doesn’t just dip its toes in the affordable pool, but dives headfirst with a confident splash.

Design

The Acer Super ZX is a pleasant surprise in the design department. It’s not flashy, but it’s far from boring. With curved edges and a slightly chunky feel, it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The build quality is unexpectedly solid, giving it a reassuring heft without feeling like a brick. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is placed just right—no weird finger gymnastics required. At a glance, it could almost pass for a pricier device, especially in its darker hues. It’s the kind of phone you could pull out in a café without looking like you’ve borrowed it from your younger sibling.

Display

One of the Super ZX’s best features is its 6.8-inch AMOLED display. Offering a Full HD+ resolution and a fluid 120Hz refresh rate, this screen is bright, vibrant, and surprisingly premium for a budget device. With 1000 nits of peak brightness, outdoor visibility is pretty impressive, even in harsh sunlight.Colours look vivid without being overly saturated, and the deeper blacks add a premium touch to your binge-watching sessions. Whether you’re gaming, streaming, or scrolling, the display keeps things looking slick and smooth.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset powers the Acer Super ZX, making it capable of handling day-to-day tasks with ease. The model we tested came with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage—more than enough for social media, messaging apps, and light gaming. While it’s not a performance beast, it’s more than adequate for everyday use. Running on Android 15, the interface feels modern and responsive, though there’s a bit of bloatware that you might want to clear out. Heavy gaming can push it to its limits, but for casual users, it’s a no-fuss experience. You also get Gemini assistance that works wonderfully well.

Camera

The 64MP primary camera is a bit of a mixed bag. In good lighting, it delivers decent shots with respectable detail but the colours might appear a bit overdone. This can be corrected with a few settings - there’s a Pro mode - and the 64MP high res mode also does a good job of getting that extra detail. It even clicks portraits well, provided there’s enough light, but it isn’t the fastest snapper around, it takes a second to capture and save especially if you have AI mode on.

Low light, however, tells a slightly gimmer story—grain creeps in, and images lose sharpness. The other two sensors—a 2MP depth lens and a 2MP macro camera—are more or less there for decoration. They do their job but don’t expect groundbreaking results (you anyway should not at Rs. 9,990). On the bright side, the 13MP front camera is fine for selfies and video calls, as long as you’re not expecting studio-quality shots.

Battery Life

One thing Acer nailed with the Super ZX is the battery. The 5000mAh capacity means you can comfortably go through a day and a half without hunting for a charger. Even with the 120Hz refresh rate running, the phone doesn’t drain itself dry. When it does need a top-up, the 33W fast charging gets you back in the game quickly. It’s no flashy “Super VOOC” or “Warp Charge,” but it’s efficient and reliable.

Verdict

The Acer Super ZX might not blow your mind, but it doesn’t need to. It’s designed for those who want a bit of style without splurging. The display is a definite highlight, the performance is decent for the price, and the battery life is refreshingly reliable. The camera is where it shows its budget roots, especially in low light, but for everyday snaps, it gets the job done. If you’re after a budget smartphone that looks good, works well, and doesn’t break the bank, the Acer Super ZX is worth considering.

Stuff Says

The Acer Super ZX doesn’t overpromise, but it sure overdelivers in some areas. A solid display, reliable battery, and decent everyday performance make it a no-brainer for budget buyers.
