The Gigabyte M27QA ICE, a 27-inch QHD gaming monitor, has been chilling on our desk for the past month. With its 180Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium support, all in a sleek and minimalist design, it seems like a great deal. But is it really as cool as it sounds? Let's take a closer look and find out!
Gigabyte M27QA ICE review
A cool and crisp performer
Design
The M27QA ICE is white, which immediately makes it stand out from the other black-coloured monitors we've tested so far. It blends with my white workbench for my setup, so I quite like it. However, some competitive gamers might find the white bezels a bit distracting.
In theory, the white bezel on the Gigabyte is quite the opposite of the black 'Shields' that you see on BenQ Zowie XL2566. This monitor can easily adjust to any desk aesthetic, gaming or work. The monitor only has height and tilt adjustments and doesn't have swivel, pivot and screen rotation adjustments. Even the VESA mount at the back for a monitor arm requires longer thread screws so in case you're planning to position this as per your preference, the options are limited.
Performance
Now the M27QA isn't a segment shaker in its price range but it's got one thing going for it and that's colour. The 27-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS panel delivers stunning visuals, with vibrant colours and crisp details. It doesn't have the punchy contrast of an OLED monitor but at this price point, the Gigabyte is good for SDR content. The colours are calibrated well and between a BenQ and LG monitor at this price, the Gigabyte has better colour calibration. There's very little banding here and the colour uniformity is some of the best you can find on a monitor.
However, the HDR performance is a bit disappointing. It doesn't bring any noticeable improvement in contrast or brightness. For console gamers, you only get HDMI 2.0 port here which means you don't get ALLM and VRR features. It would've been nice to have, especially in 2025. The 180Hz refresh rate and 1ms (MPRT) response time ensure buttery-smooth gameplay, even in fast-paced action scenes. And with AMD FreeSync Premium support, you can say goodbye to screen tearing and stuttering.
In addition to its impressive specs, the M27QA ICE also comes with several Gigabyte's proprietary features, including OSD Sidekick software, Black Equalizer, and Aim Stabilizer. These features give you even more control over your gaming experience, allowing you to fine-tune the display settings to your liking.
KVM, a Gigabyte-exclusive feature, lets you connect one keyboard and mouse to the monitor and then control multiple devices and switch between them. Suppose you connect a MacBook or iPad to the monitor and your gaming PC as well, you can control them both from a single connected keyboard and mouse.
Verdict
The Gigabyte M27QA ICE is a good monitor with a great design and impressive performance. Its QHD resolution, fast refresh rate and response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium support make it a great choice for PC gamers. Its exclusive features from Gigabyte are also a plus. Overall, if you're looking for a stylish and powerful gaming monitor and don't mind the price, the Gigabyte M27QA ICE is a good option.
