Realme GT 7 review

There’s a new phone in town, and it’s boldly calling itself the "2025 flagship killer". The Realme GT 7 is a device that arrives with a hefty price tag and an arsenal of impressive specs.

Packing a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chipset, a stunning 120Hz AMOLED display, and a battery that promises to go the distance, it's clearly swinging for the fences. But can this ambitious smartphone truly punch above its weight and deliver an experience worthy of its premium aspirations, or does it trip over its own hype? Let's dive in and find out.

Design and display

The Realme GT 7 tries to make a statement with its design. It tips the scales at 206 grams, giving it a certain heft. However, for a phone costing this much, it doesn't quite feel like a premium device. There's a certain "budget" sensation to it; other phones in this price range boast a more refined, higher-quality body. Adding to the aesthetic quirks, the red power-off button on the side feels jarring; it just doesn't quite fit the phone's overall vibe and looks a little weird. I would suggest a good phone cover to hide that thing.

Flipping it over, the display is where the Realme GT 7 truly shines. It packs a flexible 6.78-inch AMOLED screen display, boasting a sharp 2780x1264 pixel resolution and a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The display delivers, certainly feeling like an improvement and giving you an immersive viewing experience. You're also getting IP69 dust and water resistance, which is a nice bit of added peace of mind for those unexpected splashes.

Specifications and software

Under the hood, the Realme GT 7  is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chipset, an octa-core beast built on TSMC's 4nm process. It features a single core clocking in at 3.4 GHz, three at 2.85 GHz, and four at 2.0 GHz. This is paired with a solid 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage for our review unit, but there’s a 256GB storage variant available as well.
Software-wise, the device runs on Realme UI 6.0, which is layered on top of Android 15. However, and this is a significant problem, the phone comes absolutely chock-full of bloatware. It's an unwelcome digital baggage that detracts from the otherwise clean Android experience.

GT Boost and Gaming

Now, for something a bit special for the gamers out there: the Realme GT 7  comes with a dedicated GT Boost feature. This isn't just about raw power; it's designed to enhance how players interact with their games, particularly games like CoD, Genshin Impact and BGMI, with BGMI being a major focus for them.

To start, I did notice a very definite increase in overall game performance, and I could run most games at the highest graphics settings without seeing any noticeable drop in frame rates or general smoothness, allowing me to play these games at their full potential, be it battle royale games or MMORPGs; BGMI in particular could comfortably be run at 120 fps. And for those who love to tinker, Geek Power Tuning and Game Focus Mode allow for customising settings to match your playstyle.

However, some parts of the GT Boost system are a bit of a mixed bag. While it's optimised to meet (and surpass) tournament standards, it’s also got a bunch of bells and whistles which don’t prove particularly useful. For instance, the AI gaming coach, which is only available in select games such as BGMI, is meant to offer audio prompts or on-screen text to aid you as you play; more often than not, I found it simply stated the bleeding obvious, warning me of an enemy's location after they'd already shot and killed me (gee, thanks), not exactly the timely advice one hopes for! The "consecutive skills and tap interactions" feature lets you bind several actions to a single button and even create new buttons that are macros of your recorded actions. While interesting, it only proved genuinely useful in select situations – I personally only found a proper use for it in clicker games, where its ability to record and repeat actions essentially turned it into an autoclicker.

Cameras

When it comes to snapping pics, the Realme GT 7 brings a triple-camera setup to the party. You get a 50MP wide-angle primary camera, which, to be precise, is a Sony IMX906 OIS camera, paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera (OV08D10 sensor) and a 50MP Telephoto camera (Samsung S5KJN5 sensor), complemented by an LED Flash. For video fiends, it's capable of 4K video recording. For your selfie needs, there's a 32MP wide-angle lens on the front (Sony IMX615 sensor), capable of Full HD video recording.
In practice, the phone performs decent in well-lit conditions. Pictures have some details, and there are no weird saturation boosts. However, it doesn’t get skin tones correct, and there’s often an over-brightening of skin tones on faces even in perfectly lit conditions. As for low-light conditions, images are surprisingly competent and clean, avoiding excessive noise.
We’d say the camera system on the Realme GT 7 is decent. It’s not going to give Vivo and iQOO any competition in that space, to some degree, even the OnePlus smartphones can outperform the camera on the Realme.
The AI editor features proves very convenient when editing pictures and removing things such as glare, reflections, fog or even people, ensuring you no longer have to worry about photobombers ruining your family photos.

Performance and battery life

With the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chipset running the show and a hefty 12GB of RAM, the Realme GT 7 is a performance beast. It's capable of handling daily tasks and more demanding applications without breaking too much of a sweat. When testing on Geekbench, the CPU benchmarks went up to 2216 for the single core and 7226 for the multi-core, beating phones like the mighty S24 Ultra with ease. The phone can run several applications with ease, ensuring you never see a shred of lag.

Battery life is another strong suit. The GT 7 packs a colossal 7000 mAh battery and is good enough to last an entire day without needing a charge. When you do need to top it up, the 120W Super Flash Charging is incredibly rapid via the USB Type-C port that is available in the box, going from 5% to 100% in a blistering 45 minutes, which means you won’t be tethered to that wall socket for long!
The Realme GT7 boasts about its AI capabilities with the AI planner that acts as your smart schedule assistant. By tapping the sensor on the back of the phone, the AI analyses the screen and automatically adds it to your calendar; this can be done with WhatsApp messages, poster images and booking details. I did not find it to be particularly useful, with it coming in handy in very select situations

Verdict

The Realme GT 7 enters the ring swinging, boasting a potent MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chipset, a vibrant 120Hz AMOLED display, a truly colossal battery with lightning-fast 120W charging, and some seriously good gaming enhancements via GT Boost. While it certainly delivers on raw power and battery longevity, it stumbles a bit when it comes to the overall feel and out-of-the-box software experience. While the bloatware is a definite sore point, the processor more than makes up for it. If you're chasing top-tier gaming features and don't mind a bit of digital decluttering, the GT 7 offers a compelling package, especially with that stellar performance and all-day battery life.
