Redmi Note 14 Pro + review

The sensible choice

from ₹ 30,999

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is Xiaomi’s latest effort to shake up the midrange phone game, and honestly, it’s trying pretty hard to impress. It’s got the shiny looks, a battery that could outlast a Netflix binge marathon, and a camera that promises big things. But is it all smooth sailing, or does it have a few quirks that might make you think twice? Let’s break it down and see if thisp hone is as good as it’s trying to look—or if it’s just flexing for the spec sheet.

Design

It’s sleek, shiny, and gives off the impression that it’s much fancier than it really is — a bit like wearing a tuxedo to a barbecue. The glass back is gorgeous but frustratingly prone to smudges, so you’ll either be constantly polishing it or resigning yourself to the indignity of a plastic case. That said, the phone feels great in hand, even though it’s a bit on the chunky side thanks to its massive 6200mAh battery. But hey, it’s IP68-rated, so it can take a dunk in the sink if you’re clumsy.

Display

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display is a treat to the eye. With a 120Hz refresh rate, animations and scrolling are buttery smooth, making everything from gaming to web browsing more enjoyable. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support enhance color accuracy and contrast which at this price is a nice bit to have. A peak brightness of 3000 nits is decent enough for outdoor use and isn’t going to leave you wanting for more. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering superior scratch and impact resistance.

Performance

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, designed for efficient multitasking and gaming. This processor is just about right for everyday tasks, from browsing to running demanding applications and editing videos. Paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, the phone doesn’t stutter much and multitasking is fine as well. Gamers will appreciate the Adreno GPU, which handles most modern titles smoothly, though it might struggle slightly with high settings in graphically demanding games.

On the downside, while the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is competent, it isn’t the most powerful chipset in this segment, lagging behind some competitors in benchmark tests. Nonetheless, for most users, its real-world performance is more than adequate and quite frankly at this price it feels more than justified.

Camera

The camera setup is versatile, led by a 50MP primary sensor with OIS for sharp, stable shots. An 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 50MP telephoto camera complete the triple-camera system.

In good light, it’s a star performer—images are sharp, colors are vivid without being overcooked, and the dynamic range makes even the dullest skies look like a Turner painting. But, as the sun sets, the cracks begin to show. The Night Mode steps in like a well-meaning but slightly overzealous friend, smoothing out noise and boosting brightness, though occasionally it misses the mark.

Then there’s the 8MP ultra-wide lens, which boldly claims to capture the bigger picture—literally. With a 120° field of view, it’s great for squeezing in those epic landscapes or group shots where everyone insists on standing three feet apart.

Now, the 50MP telephoto lens. At 2.5x optical zoom, it’s ideal for getting up close and personal with your subjects—whether that’s your cat napping on the sofa or your neighbor’s suspiciously lush garden. Portraits, in particular, shine here, with a creamy background blur that screams “DSLR wannabe.” It’s not perfect, but then neither is a Picasso.

Battery Life

One of the standout features of the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is its 6200mAh battery, which easily lasts a full day of intensive use. Whether you’re gaming, streaming, or multitasking, the battery delivers reliable endurance. The 90W fast charging capability is another major advantage, allowing the device to go from 0% to 100% in under an hour. This ensures minimal downtime, even for heavy users.

The only downside is the omission of wireless charging, a feature increasingly seen in premium mid range devices. While not a dealbreaker, it might deter users who have grown accustomed to the convenience of wireless options.

Operating System (OS)

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS, based on Android 14. This latest iteration offers a cleaner, more intuitive user interface with several customization options. New features like improved privacy settings and performance optimizations contribute to a smoother overall experience. HyperOS also ensures regular updates, keeping the device secure and updated over time.

That said, Xiaomi’s custom skin can feel heavy for users who prefer a stock Android experience. Also there’s still quite a lot of bloatware that comes with it which is just plain annoying.

Verdict

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is a thoughtfully designed smartphone that balances performance, practicality, and style. Its strengths lie in its robust battery life, versatile camera system, and stunning display, all wrapped in a premium and durable design especially at a starting price of Rs. 30k! Drawbacks include the absence of wireless charging and the occasional bloatware in the OS. Despite these minor shortcomings, the device remains an excellent choice for someone seeking a reliable and feature-rich midrange phone at a competitive price.
