Binge Guide: What to watch on OTT platforms this weekend

Our pick of the best that streaming services have to offer. [Feb 4 2022]

The first weekend of February is going to be an action packed break from the daily grind. From time loops and murder mysteries to some good ol’ American action blockbuster, this weekend’s binge guide has it all.
We don’t want you wasting a second wondering where to start or what to watch. So here’s a handy guide on the best new shows or movies to catch up this weekend across popular OTT streaming platforms.

Netflix

Looop Lapeta
Remember the 1998 experimental German thriller Run Lola Run? The film that swept up most of the prestigious awards at film festivals in its year of release is now being officially remade in Hindi. Starring Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin, the film tells the story of Savi who is caught in a time loop while trying to save her ‘useless boyfriend’ from a gang of thugs after a bad day at the casino.
The Tinder Swindler
This true-crime documentary is a bit too relevant for these times, and is an eye-opener of sorts for those frequenting the dating app space. It tells the story of a group of women who fell victim to Shimon Hayut, a con man on Tinder who trapped these women with his charm and lies, only to swindle them off thousands, if not millions, of dollars.

Prime Video

Reacher
Tom Cruise-starrer Jack Reacher wasn’t the film everyone expected. Prime Video is now taking another shot at bringing Lee Child’s character to life, and immediately you’ll notice that the protagonist is closer to the author’s original vision – a 6ft 5in blond mountain-man. The series will see Reacher help small-town police to catch a killer.

Disney+ Hotstar

The Great Indian Murder
A murder mystery with an ostentatious title that’s directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, and starring Pratik Gandhi and Richa Chadha has all the ingredients for a lip-smacking, edge-of-the-seat binge watch. The taut trailer gave us a generous hint at what to expect, and we’re counting down the days till the series starts streaming.

SonyLIV

Rocket Boys
Ishwak Singh and Jim Sarbh play the characters of Dr Vikram Sarabhai and Dr Homi Bhabha – two of the most decorated names in scientific circles. This SonyLIV original promises a peek into the illustrious lives of these great minds along with cameos by historical figures like APJ Abdul Kalam, Jawaharlal Nehru, and CV Raman.

Apple TV+

Suspicion
This Apple TV+ original stars Uma Thurman as a businesswoman who’s son is kidnapped from a hotel. Four seemingly innocuous individuals from the UK are suddenly marked as suspects, and their only connection is that they were in the hotel on that fateful night. The series also stars Kunal Nayyar, Georgina Campbell, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Tom Rhys-Harries.
