Mechanical automatic watches are for the purists and hobbyists, and most of the luxury brands specialise in these finely crafted wristwatches. However, Casio isn't a brand you associate with the mechanical automatic way of things, until now. Casio has launched the Edifice EFK-100 series of watches, pitched as the company's first ever mechanical automatic watches. The new lineup has been launched in India at Rs. 25,995 onwards, giving watch enthusiasts a refreshing change from the company's modern and practical lineup.

The Casio Edifice EFK-100 series is available in five variants in India, depending on the colour of the dial. While four out of five variants are priced at Rs. 25,995, the all-black 'forged carbon' variant is priced at Rs. 39,995. All watches are rated 10 bar for water resistance, and interestingly, you can glance at the mechanical mechanism through a neat window at the bottom of the watches.

For beginners, the Edifice EFK-100 series is a mechanical automatic watch, and does not require a battery to run. The automatic winding system relies on kinetic energy from the wrist movements of the wearer to wind up the watch, allowing the watch to work on its own perpetually. When fully wound, the watch can run for up to 40 hours; mechanical waches need to be worn every day and serviced regularly to keep them in running shape.
