Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy XR, its first device in a new line of AI-powered extended reality products. Built on the Android XR platform, co-developed with Google and Qualcomm, it features Gemini AI integrated at the system level. The headset is designed for immersive experiences that blend work, play, and creativity, marking the first step in Samsung’s broader XR roadmap, which will eventually include AI-driven glasses and other wearables.

It leverages multimodal AI to enable natural interactions. Rather than just executing commands, Galaxy XR acts as an intelligent assistant, responding to voice, gestures, and visual cues. In headset form, it can interpret users’ surroundings, seeing and hearing what they do, to provide conversational, context-aware guidance.

Comfort and design have been prioritised for long-term use. The lightweight, ergonomically balanced frame is said to distribute pressure across the forehead and back of the head, while a separate battery pack makes the device more compact and wearable. A detachable light shield allows users to choose between open comfort or deeper immersion by blocking external light.

It is powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor and Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. You can stream content on a 4K Micro-OLED screen, watch multiple sports events simultaneously, and access real-time gaming tips from Gemini AI. The headset offers 2.5 hours of battery life.

Galaxy XR also enables interaction with both virtual and real worlds. In pass-through mode, users can view their surroundings and draw a circle to instantly search for information. Photos and videos can be converted from 2D to 3D. Advanced sensors, cameras, and microphones track head, hand, and eye movements while filtering out background noise, enabling precise, intuitive interactions.

The device supports a wide range of XR-focused apps, including Google Maps, YouTube, Circle to Search, and Google Photos. Gemini AI provides navigation guidance, personalized suggestions, and contextual content discovery. For creative workflows, tools like Adobe Project Pulsar allow 3D video edits, layered captions, and cinematic effects, enhancing both productivity and entertainment.
