Hyundai has marked its first appearance at Gamescom 2025, becoming one of the first carmakers to set up a dedicated space. The brand is showcasing its self-created “Insteroid Retro Arcade” game — a blend of classic arcade nostalgia and Hyundai’s automotive flair. The Insteroid Retro Arcade game puts the Insteroid concept car in the spotlight as its main character.
It channels the spirit of classic maze games where players dodge villains and collect points. Built on the Inster sub-compact EV, the concept car itself weaves in video game-inspired design cues.
Gameplay unfolds across two stages – in the first, players gather steroid-shaped electricity items to evolve the Inster into the Insteroid; in the second, they steer the evolved car to trap the final boss in a maze and finish the mission as fast as possible. Every sound and visual in the game is lifted straight from the Insteroid’s UX design, fusing the digital and automotive worlds.
To dial up the nostalgia, Hyundai Motor is showcasing the game in a classic arcade cabinet format. At the booth, an exclusive event will let top-ranking players see their likeness turned into in-game characters, adding a fun personal twist.
Visitors can also dive deeper into the Insteroid concept car’s UX features, including its integrated BeatHouse sound system and the custom sound effects designed for moments like boarding, exiting, idling, and drifting.
