Nikon's gone full cinema mode. The company just pulled the wraps off its first-ever professional movie camera - the Nikon ZR - at the Broadcast India Show 2025, and it's a stunner. Developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema, this pocket-sized powerhouse promises 6K RAW recording, RED R3D NE codec, and - wait for it - the world's first 32-bit float audio recording built right in.
Think of it as Nikon's grand entry into the world of filmmaking, but with a twist: the ZR weighs just 540g. That's lighter than your average zoom lens, yet it packs 15+ stops of dynamic range, dual-base ISO (800/6400), deep-learning autofocus, and 5-axis IBIS. Basically, everything you'd expect from a full-size cinema rig, minus the chiropractor bills.
There's Frame.io cloud integration, OZO Audio with five pickup patterns, and even a new wireless ME-D10 shotgun mic that doesn't need batteries or cables. Add in real-time LUT previews, waveform monitoring, and a magnesium-alloy body, and you've got a bona fide production tool that's as serious about sound as it is about sight.
The Nikon ZR camera body will be available from 16th October 2025 at INR 1,86,995 (Body Only) across India at Nikon outlets.
