Perplexity AI has rolled out a powerful new feature for iOS users called Perplexity Assistant—a voice-enabled AI that talks back and also takes action. As per Perplexity, it's a productivity companion, capable of carrying out real-world tasks right on your iPhone. Ask it to book a restaurant, send an email, adjust your calendar, play your favourite playlist, or set a reminder—and it gets it done, all from within the app and via natural voice commands.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas took to X to unveil the new feature, calling it a step toward creating a “full-service, on-device agent.” He showcased examples like, “Play the podcast where Marc Andreessen talks about browsers with Lex Fridman,” or “Show me the clip of Katy Perry kissing the ground after landing from the rocket,” to illustrate how naturally users can command the assistant.
The assistant activates with your voice, and for those using newer iPhone models, you can even link it to the Action button. That means one tap launches Perplexity’s Voice Mode, turning your device into a hub for AI-powered tasks on the go.
Perplexity Assistant will come integrated with Apple Music and Apple Mail, making it instantly useful for iOS users. Gmail and Google Calendar integration are also on the horizon, aiming to make the assistant more versatile for those juggling between Apple and Google ecosystems.
