Tecno has taken the wraps off its newest innovation in foldables — the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, a tri-fold smartphone concept. Unlike standard foldables, this model uses a G-style dual-hinge mechanism, folding inward twice to transform into a compact form while offering a tablet-sized experience when fully unfolded.
At its core is a 9.94-inch main display that stays safely tucked away when not in use, shielded by the folding mechanism. For quick access and everyday functions, there's a secondary cover screen that behaves like a traditional smartphone display. Despite its complex mechanics, the device remains impressively slim, measuring just 11.49mm when folded and an ultra-thin 3.49mm at its thinnest point when unfolded, making it the most compact tri-fold Tecno has developed to date.
At the heart of Tecno’s tri-fold concept lies a sophisticated dual-hinge system, combining a compact waterdrop hinge with a larger main hinge. The smaller hinge enables the right side of the display to fold inward — similar to a traditional foldable — while the larger hinge folds the left section over the top, creating a gapless, fully enclosed fold, as per the brand. A self-locking mechanism ensures the device stays securely shut, adding both stability and protection.
The design also introduces flexible usage modes. Thanks to a customised dual-camera setup housed within the larger hinge, the phone can hold various angles when partially folded. This makes it ideal for hands-free tasks, turning the device into a compact workstation or media viewer when needed.
Once fully unfolded, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept reveals a spacious 9.94-inch display with barely noticeable creasing, transforming the device from a compact smartphone into a full tablet-sized screen. This makes it ideal for intensive multitasking, content creation, or immersive media experiences on the go.
Despite its slim profile, the device has been packed with decent hardware, including a 5000mAh battery, a triple-camera system, and a high-performance chipset, aiming to balance portability with powerful all-day performance.
