Amazon uses generative AI to make Alexa ‘smarter’ and human-like

More in Alexa's bag of tricks!

Starting 2023, Amazon’s star of the show is the spiffy, upgraded Alexa, now supercharged with the magic of generative AI. This means Alexa just got a whole lot smarter and chattier.

Alexa is now powered by a new, shiny, custom-made large language model (LLM) that is set to supercharge your voice interactions. With Alexa's fresh generative AI skills, you can now chat with her in a way that feels as natural as a conversation with your human pal. All you have to do is say, "Alexa, let's chat," and you're off to the races with an interactive conversation. Amazon says “Alexa’s ability to reason, infer customer intent, and understand complex requests will remarkably improve."

Alexa is stepping up her game in the calendar management department. Now, she can sift through your emails to find event details for you. Just shoot an email to Alexa, and she'll extract the event info and slot it into your calendar. With the Alexa Emergency Assist feature, you have quick access to emergency safety services when you need them most.

There's also a new Eye Gaze mode on the horizon. This feature is designed to help those with speech and mobility challenges. All they need to do is gaze at their tablets, and they can control Alexa.

Echo Show and the Alexa mobile app are about to get real-time audio and video call translations. That means you can have conversations even if the other person doesn't speak your language. This feature is set to roll out in the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain later this year, supporting over 10 languages including English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
