Apple iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max get an Action Button, better processor and USB Type-C!

Titanium, camera, action!

Summarising all of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max’s features into a 2-minute read might be slightly difficult but here we go! First up, pricing. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro starts at ₹1,34,900 and is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at ₹1,59,900 and is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities. Both these blowers come in black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium finishes. The natural titanium finish gives you the raw hues of the aerospace-grade titanium. Why titanium you ask? Well, durability and weight loss dear reader. And how else will you brag about being better than Android? The iPhone 15 Pro Max is 221g and the older 14 Pro Max is 240g. Sweet.

Apple has also booted the mute switch for the very first time and replaced it with an Action Button. It is pretty much a customisable button which can toggle between ring and silent if you long press it. You can also use it to quickly access the camera, flashlight, Voice Memos, Focus modes, and Translate. Or you can start any app after assigning it through the Shortcuts app.

However, the most jaw-dropping moment in the keynote was the availability of console game titles like Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage on Apple iPhone 15 Pro! Thanks to the Apple A17 Bionic processor, Apple has redesigned the GPU from the ground up for this 3nm processor. The GPU is 20-times faster than before and the Neural Engine is 2x faster. That’s just the GPU, Apple has also included an AV1 decoder for better streaming services.

All that processing juice goes to the camera system as well. While the Apple iPhone 15 Pro gets a 3x telephoto camera, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max gets a longer 5x optical zoom. The iPhone 15 cameras can now allow for readjusting the focus after taking a portrait shot as well. Say you took a portrait shot but the phone blurred the wrong subject, you can edit and refocus to the correct subject after the shot has been taken. This is something Android smartphones have been doing for a while so it’s nice to see Apple finally catch up. The USB Type-C on the Pro models is faster as well (up to 10 gigabits). So you can connect it to a Mac and transfer photos directly while shooting in a studio. The iPhone 15 Pro also introduces a new option for Log encoding and is the first smartphone in the world to support ACES, the Academy Colour Encoding System, a global standard for colour workflows. Pro gets Pro-er? You’ll also be able to capture videos in 3D and play them on the Apple Vision Pro when it launches next year.

For the spec nerds, the camera system is a 48MP main, 12MP ultra-wide and 12MP telephoto. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a ‘tetraprism’ inside it which lets the optical zoom reach 120mm. It’s like a tiny periscope without the bulk. Display resolution, size, brightness and quality remain pretty much the same as before.
