Apple’s latest M4 Chip is sitting inside an iPad Pro

What is a computer?

While it’s customary to plonk the latest computer processors on a traditional computer, Apple has always blurred the line between a tablet and a computer. And now more so with the new Apple iPad Pro 2024 which is the first Apple product to get the Apple Silicon M4 chip.

The brain behind their brand new iPad Pro is a powerhouse with some serious upgrades. Built on a 3-nanometer process, the M4 has 1.5x faster CPU performance than the M2 chip in the previous iPad Pro. With a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, the performance of the iPad Pro is a proper work machine and now Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro 2 support for iPad seal the deal.

There’s also a new display engine for the new iPad Pro's Ultra Retina XDR display which has two OLED panels sandwiched together to drive higher brightness and colour.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been announced for the iPad and iPhone as well and now the M4 brings Dynamic Caching, a technology that optimizes memory usage for a dramatic performance boost. It also brings hardware-accelerated ray tracing for more realistic lighting and reflections, along with hardware-accelerated mesh shading for rendering complex scenes with ease.

But the real powerhouse is the Neural Engine. M4's Neural Engine is the fastest Apple has ever created, capable of a mind-blowing 38 trillion operations per second. This translates to powerful AI features like real-time video captioning and object identification in photos and videos. Imagine isolating a subject in a 4K video with a single tap or automatically generating musical notation as someone plays the piano – that's the power of M4's Neural Engine.

M4 also boasts an advanced Media Engine that supports the latest video codecs, including AV1 for more efficient streaming of high-resolution content. Prices for the new iPads are on our website. You can click here to know more about the Apple iPad Pro.
