Apple is gearing up for a major overhaul of its Mac range, preparing to roll out several new models featuring the upcoming M5 processor. According to a report by AppleInsider, the update will span across MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Mac Studio.
The first product expected to launch under Apple’s new M5 lineup is the MacBook Pro powered by the standard M5 chip, which could arrive by the end of 2025. Versions featuring the more advanced M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are reportedly slated for early 2026.
AppleInsider also reports that one of the upcoming MacBook Pro models, identified internally as J704, is nearing its debut. This designation follows the J604 code used for the M4-powered MacBook Pro. The next-gen laptop is said to be undergoing testing with a custom build of macOS Tahoe 26.0.2. The higher-end models equipped with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are anticipated to launch in early 2026, possibly around January, following the release of macOS 26.3.
Once the MacBook Pro hits the market, Apple is expected to turn its attention to the M5-based MacBook Air, known internally as J813 and J815. These new Air models are tipped to retain the familiar 13-inch and 15-inch display options from the M4 generation and could arrive with macOS 26.2.
Toward the latter part of the year, Apple is reportedly preparing upgraded versions of the Mac mini codenamed J873s and J873g and Mac Studio J775c and J775d. These refreshed desktops are expected to launch around mid-2026, coinciding with the release of macOS 26.4. The same software update could also hint at the existence of a new iMac, internally labeled J833ct, though specifics about that model are still under wraps.
