BMW S 1000 R launched in India for Rs. 19.90 lakh (ex-showroom)

A hyper-naked roadster with advanced rider-assistance tech and a 999cc engine!

BMW Motorrad has rolled out the all-new S 1000 R in India, a hyper-naked roadster priced at Rs 19.90 lakh ex-showroom. The fully assembled CBU model is open for bookings at BMW Motorrad dealerships across the country.

The S 1000 R has a bold roadster stance with a split-headlight setup and sculpted bodywork that gives it a sharp, athletic profile. The tail section has been streamlined with a more compact license plate mount, and the brake and rear lights are integrated into the turn indicators, giving the bike a cleaner, modern look.

The bike comes in three colour options – standard Blackstorm Metallic, Bluefire with Mugiallo Yellow through the Style Sport package, and the exclusive Light White Uni with M Motorsport accents offered only in the M package. These colour schemes, paired with extras like a tinted sport windscreen in the Style Sport trim and M-specific seats and wheels, underscore the bike’s racing DNA.

On the tech front, BMW Motorrad has loaded the S 1000 R with premium features. A 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display offers smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation via the BMW Motorrad app, while a built-in USB charging port keeps devices powered on the go.

The BMW S 1000 R also comes with rider-assistance tech to make ride safer and more controllable. Headlight Pro adds daytime running lights, while a six-axis sensor package powers ABS Pro, dynamic traction control, engine drag torque control, hill start assist, and three riding modes: Rain, Road, and Dynamic.

On dimensions, the standard S 1000 R tips the scales at 199kg, while the M package trims it to 196kg. It has an 830mm seat height, a 1,447mm wheelbase, and a 16.5-litre fuel tank with a four-litre reserve. Aluminium cast wheels come standard with 120/70 ZR 17 front and 190/55 ZR 17 rear tyres, with an option for wider 200/55 ZR 17 rubber on the M package.

Powering the roadster is a 999cc inline four-cylinder engine delivering 170bhp at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 9,250rpm, a 5bhp increase over its predecessor. The S 1000 R rockets from 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and tops out at an electronically limited 250kmph. Performance can be further sharpened with the optional M Endurance chain and a shorter secondary gear ratio for quicker acceleration with minimal maintenance.

For those wanting a more personalised setup, BMW offers optional packages. The Dynamic Package adds dynamic damping, pro riding modes, gear shift assistant pro, and an engine spoiler. The Comfort Package brings keyless ride, cruise control, heated grips, and tyre pressure monitoring. Meanwhile, the M Sport Package ramps up with a motorsport-inspired paint scheme, M Sport seat, lightweight battery, sports silencer, M Endurance chain, GPS Laptrigger, and forged or carbon wheels.
