While camera makers struggle to compete with the booming smartphone industry, Canon has come up with a rather interesting way to target the nerds and geeks of the world. The company has partnered with Takara Tomy to create a range of cameras inspired by Transformers like Optimus Prime.
These pop culture mashups pair the appeal of towering robots with everything from exotic sports cars, to fighter jets, to even dinosaurs. This time, the Transformers have teamed up with Canon for a couple of collectibles. It is an impressively detailed Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless camera that is quite deceptive.
Although it may look extremely real, it is unfortunately non-functional. It is a slightly smaller scaled-down replica that is a highly-articulated Optimus Prime figure. It even uses the camera’s lens cap as a shield and comes with its own matching-scale snapper.
If you are a chaotic evil kind of person who likes to root for the baddies, you can get your hands on an alternate version of this collectible. These Canon EOS R5 transforms into the Decepticon Reflector, which OG fans will recall, was the first Transformer with an actual camera as their alt mode.
Pre-orders are now open in Japan until September 28, with each bot going for about $150 (approx ₹12,000). That said you might have to wait a bit longer, since the collectible will be only officially available in February next year.
