The Italian design house Zagato has teamed up with German motorsport firm Capricorn to create a new hypercar featuring a 900bhp V8 engine paired with a manual transmission. Dubbed 01, the car will be built in an ultra-exclusive run of just 19 examples, with prices starting at approximately $3.15 million each.
Breaking from the trend of hybrid systems and electronic aids, the Capricorn 01 Zagato embraces a fully analogue philosophy. Under the hood sits a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 with no electrification, mated to a conventional six-speed manual transmission. Capricorn founder and CEO Robertino Wild explained that the goal was to craft a car that puts the driver back at the center of the experience, free from digital filters and overbearing assistance systems.
The 01 Zagato’s engine is based on a Ford design but extensively reworked by Capricorn, producing more than 888 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. Coupled with a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis and extensive composite construction, the hypercar manages to keep its dry weight below 1200 kg. The combination results in a staggering power-to-weight ratio, enabling 0–100 km/h in under three seconds and a top speed of approximately 360 km/h.
