The closest you can come to being a samurai today is either by playing Ghost of Tsushima or watching Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Casio has introduced another way that is not as aggressive as participating in cosplay. Enter the G-Shock MRG-B2000 series, which takes its design cues from traditional Japanese armours and crafting techniques.
The series gets three new models – MRG-B2000B-1A4, MRG-B2000B-1A1, and MRG-B2000D-1A. While all three are Japanese-inspired, the 1A4 is the flashiest with red accents borrowed straight from Akazonae – the armour worn by elite samurais from Japan's Sengoku period.
All three feature dials inspired from traditional Japanese fans and folding doors. The index marks have sharp edges with the idea of representing the iconic curved sword blades. The watches are as durable as the said swords too, sporting double-hardened cases, scratch, shock and magnetic resistance, and water resistance up to 200 metres.
These G-Shock watches are somewhat smart with Bluetooth connectivity support. But you can only use it with the companion MR-G smartphone app to tweak the watch settings.
These G-Shock MRG-B2000 watches are currently on sale in Singapore, with prices starting from 3,999SGD (approx ₹2,24,800) and going up to 4,199SGD (approx ₹2,37,000).
