At a first glance, this Dyson product may look like a futuristic ninja cyberpunk mask straight out of a sci-fi flick but in reality, it's a sheer example of what technology is capable of. Audio and air filtration built in one, Dyson Zone is the brand's first wearable: a noise cancelling high-fidelity over-ear headphones as well as an air purifier.
Dyson Zone is basically a pair of regular-looking headphones with a mask-type contraption that attaches to ear cups on each side with the help of magnetic hinges across the wearer’s mouth. There are compressor fans, miniaturised air pumps and air purifying dual-layer filters fitted inside both the ear cups that draw air through filters, thus cleaning it of 99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, including dust, pollen and bacteria as well as gas pollutants like sulphur or nitrogen dioxide. A plume of fresh air is then projected along the visor or mask, which sits in front of the wearer’s mouth and nose without touching the skin.
As per the brand, the headphones come with sensors that detect the movement speed of the wearer and automatically adjust the airflow to ensure that up to 5 litres of clean air is released every second. Plus, there is also an air quality sensor in the left ear cup that monitors real-time pollution levels and sends data to the app on your smartphone. It also sends notifications as to when to replace the filters.
Moving on to the headset features, Dyson Zone has active noise cancellation technology and is designed to deliver high fidelity, immersive audio with ultra-low distortion. There is an additional microphone for telephony, allowing phone calls, voice recording and voice control.
It has advanced lithium-ion batteries and Dyson ensures the headphones offer 50 hours of audio-only run-time or 4 hours of combined purification and audio run-time, charging to 100% in 3 hours. The headphones can also be used without purification by detaching the visor.
