Apple has unveiled its newest piece of silicon, the M5 chip, powering the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro. Touted as ‘the next major leap in AI computing,’ the M5 focuses on delivering dramatically improved machine learning speeds, higher power efficiency, and deeper integration with Apple Intelligence, the company’s in-house generative AI platform.
Built using Apple’s third-generation 3nm architecture, the M5 features a 10-core CPU and GPU setup, with each GPU core equipped with its own Neural Accelerator. Apple says this new chip achieves up to 3.5 times the AI performance of the M4, and up to six times faster than the original M1, claiming to set a new benchmark for on-device intelligence.
