GOG has started a new preservation program to keep classic games alive and playable, "now and for the future." The program launches with a lineup of 100 fan-favourites like Diablo, System Shock 2, and the original Resident Evil trilogy, with even more titles promised in the months ahead.
It means if a game is part of the Preservation Program, GOG is dedicating resources to make sure it stays compatible with both current and future systems. Games in the program come with some solid perks too. GOG says that the goal is to acquire “all games no longer updated or maintained by their original publisher,” no matter their age.
GOG promises that any game you buy from the preservation lineup will work smoothly on current and future popular PC setups. Plus, you'll get the most complete version available, including compatibility, manuals, bonus content, DLC, and even extra features not found in other editions.
If you run into technical issues, GOG’s tech support has you covered. And, like all games in GOG’s catalogue, you’ll always have access to offline installers, letting you store and safeguard your games however you prefer.
