Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘The Boy and the Heron’ is set to hit Indian theatres this year

Time to rejoice for the lovers of anime!

Warner Bros. India dropped the much-awaited news that Hayao Miyazaki's award-winning anime flick “The Boy and the Heron” is hitting Indian theatres this year! This movie, touted as Miyazaki's final Studio Ghibli masterpiece, will come out in two versions — Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed.

“India, the wait is over! The Academy Award Winner 'The Boy And The Heron' directed by Hayao Miyazaki, is coming soon to cinemas in INDIA,” Warner Bros. posted alongside a poster of the film. As of now, it's unclear whether the movie will receive an IMAX release in India. The poster doesn't mention IMAX, leaving us in suspense.

In the English trailer released by the creators a few months ago, Mahito is depicted struggling with the loss of his mother at a tender age and the ensuing emotional upheaval. His encounter with a talking grey heron leads him into a fantastical "world filled with the dead," as one inhabitant describes it. With the heron as his only guide, Mahito embarks on an adventure, befriending individuals along the way, all in a bid to reunite with his mother and bring her back home.
