Jio partners with SpaceX to bring Starlink internet to India

Because FOMO is real, even in space!

A day after Airtel partnered with SpaceX to bring Starlink internet to India, Jio has followed suit, announcing its own agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX. This move will allow Jio to offer Starlink’s broadband services to its customers, making the satellite-based internet available through both retail stores and online platforms.

The agreement, pending regulatory approvals for SpaceX to operate Starlink in India, sets the stage for collaboration between the two companies. It aims to explore how Starlink can enhance Jio’s internet offerings while Jio’s infrastructure supports SpaceX’s direct-to-consumer and business services.

Under this partnership, Jio and SpaceX will combine their strengths—Jio’s massive data network and Starlink’s advanced low Earth orbit satellite system—to bring reliable broadband connectivity across India, including its most remote regions.

Beyond offering Starlink equipment in retail outlets, Jio will also set up a support system for installation and activation. Starlink will serve as a complement to JioAirFiber and JioFiber, providing high-speed internet to hard-to-reach areas efficiently and cost-effectively. Additionally, both companies are exploring further collaborations to enhance India’s digital infrastructure.
