Kia’s first made-in-India EV, the Carens Clavis, debuts at a starting price of Rs 17.99 lakh

For the growing electric segment in India!

Tesla isn’t the only global EV making waves in India today—Kia has launched the all-electric Carens Clavis EV, its first made-in-India seven-seater electric MPV, priced from Rs 17.99 lakh. Based on the ICE version of the Clavis, this EV gets two battery options – a 42kWh pack with 404km range and a 51.4kWh pack offering up to 490km (ARAI-certified).

The smaller pack pairs with a 135hp motor, while the larger one gets 171hp—both with 255Nm torque and front-wheel drive. Kia claims 0–100kph in 8.4 seconds for the top variant. Features include four-level regenerative braking via paddle shifters and a steering-mounted drive selector.

Kia’s Carens Clavis EV comes with 7.4kW and 11kW AC charger options. Using the 11kW charger, the 42kWh battery charges from 10–100% in 4 hours, while the 51.4kWh unit takes around 4 hours 45 minutes. Plus, Kia offers an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty on the entire vehicle.

Visually, the EV sticks close to its ICE counterpart but adds a few electric-specific touches—aerodynamic front bumper with active air flaps, a nose-mounted charging port, illuminated LED DRL strip, new ice-cube fog lamps, silver accents, and a 25-litre frunk. It rides on 17-inch aero-optimised alloys and has 200mm ground clearance, while the rear remains mostly unchanged apart from EV badging.

On the inside also the Carens Clavis EV retains the familiar dashboard layout from the ICE version but introduces a floating centre console for added storage and refreshed trim accents for a more premium EV feel.

Feature-wise, it has twin 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a Bose 8-speaker system, ventilated seats, a powered driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and even V2L/V2V charging support. It also offers connected car tech, one-touch electric tumble for the second row, and Boss Mode for rear-seat comfort.

On safety, it has 6 airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, TPMS, and all-disc brakes as standard. Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and a virtual engine sound system add further peace of mind on higher trims.
