Mahindra Scorpio-N launched with a bolder design and a host of new features

SUV pedigree

Putting all rumours to rest, Mahindra has finally unveiled the Scorpio-N. The ‘Big Daddy of SUVs’, as it is being branded, was unveiled at a launch event akin to a Bollywood awards night.
The SUV features a design that is as butch (if not more) as the original Scorpio that launched about 20 years back. In its new avatar, the Scorpio-N is now the longest and the widest SUV in its class. In essence, it is 206mm longer, 97mm wider, and boasts a 70mm bigger wheelbase.

There is now a long list of features on offer as well, starting with an 8in infotainment system with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Like in the XUV700, this system too comes with Amazon’s Alexa baked in, which lets you control features using voice commands. Other features include a 12-speaker Sony system, sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control,
Under the hood is a choice between a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine (175hp/400Nm) or a 2.0L mStallion petrol engine (200hp/300Nm). There are three drive modes to select from (zip, zap, zoom), and 4WD options.
There will be a total of five variants on offer – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, and Z8L. Deliveries of the new Mahindra Scorpio-N will start sometime during the festive season, with bookings set to kick off on July 30.
Prices for the new Scorpio start from ₹11.99 lakh and go up to ₹19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Mind you these are introductory prices, and will only apply to the first 25,000 bookings. And for those wondering, the current-gen Scorpio will continue being available under the nomenclature of Scorpio Classic.
