MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 SoC is the company's latest powerhouse for flagship smartphones. According to MediaTek, this chip delivers a 35% boost in single-core performance compared to its predecessor. This fourth-gen processor is built on Arm’s v9.2 CPU architecture, with a dedicated GPU and a neural processing unit (NPU) for AI tasks. It's crafted using TSMC’s second-gen 3nm fabrication process, ensuring both efficiency and top-tier performance, as per MediaTek.
Staying true to MediaTek's "big core" design, the Dimensity 9400 packs one Cortex-X925 core clocked at 3.62GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. MediaTek touts a 35% boost in single-core and 28% in multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300. And on top of that, it’s 40% more power-efficient than its predecessor.
The chipset also features MediaTek's eighth-gen NPU, offering advanced capabilities like on-device LoRA training and video generation, along with support for Agentic AI development. MediaTek claims the SoC can deliver up to 80% faster performance for large language model (LLM) prompts, all while being 35% more power-efficient than the previous version.
Turning to the GPU, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 features a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925, which promises a 40% boost in ray tracing performance over its predecessor. MediaTek also claims improvements in peak performance by 41% and power savings of 44% compared to the Dimensity 9300. Plus, the chipset comes equipped with HyperEngine tech for an enhanced gaming experience.
The chipset also features Imagiq 1090 for on-device image processing. It includes some nifty upgrades, such as HDR video recording across the entire zoom range, better tracking for moving subjects, and reduced power consumption when capturing 4K60 fps video, making it a solid choice for photography enthusiasts.
