MediaTek has pulled the wraps off its latest premium 5G chip — the Dimensity 8450 — and it promises some big AI smarts. At the heart of this next-gen mobile platform is the new MediaTek Agentic AI Engine (DAE), teamed up with NPU 880, designed for everything from slick AI-driven camera tricks to generative AI tasks with ease. MediaTek says with this chipset you can expect smoother, more immersive gaming sessions and ultra-stable 4K video recording, courtesy of its clever multi-frame EIS engine.
It features an all Big Core CPU setup with eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores and an Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, delivering high performance with smart power efficiency. The Agentic AI Engine (DAE), optimised for the growing GenAI space, supports a wide range of LLMs, SLMs, and LMMs, while the NPU 880 brings flagship-grade AI power to both productivity tools and advanced camera functions. The Dimensity 8450 SoC, as per MediaTek, offers up to 30% faster performance than competing platforms for streaming, editing, recording, and publishing.
Gamers can expect smooth performance and better power efficiency, thanks to the CPU-GPU combo. For video creators, the multi-frame EIS engine ensures steady 4K60 HDR (HLG) footage, while the MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP—with in-sensor zoom and QPD remosaic tech promises crisp, detailed shots straight from the sensor.
On the connectivity front, the integrated 5G-A modem supports up to 3CC carrier aggregation and peak download speeds of 5.17Gbps. Plus, with support for WQHD+ displays at 144Hz and dual-screen setups, the Dimensity 8450 is clearly gunning for the premium tier.
The chipset is set to make its debut inside the upcoming Oppo Reno 14 Pro, with a K-series Oppo device to follow closely behind.
