Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQS tech launched in India for ₹ 3crore (ex-showroom)

Feels both familiar and futuristic

Mercedes-Benz has introduced its new electric luxury SUV, the G580, in India, with prices starting at ₹3 crore (ex-showroom). Launched as the Edition One variant, the G580 retains the classic boxy silhouette of the iconic G-Class but incorporates distinct EV design elements to set it apart.

The G-Class combines rugged styling with advanced aerodynamics, featuring a raised hood, flared rear wheel arches, and air curtains. Enhanced by A-pillar cladding and a sleek roof-edge spoiler, it seems to balance performance with aesthetics. For an electrified twist, the G 580 EQ offers an optional black-panel grille too.

Off-road dominance is undeniable with impressive breakover, approach, and departure angles of 20.3, 32, and 30.7 degrees, respectively. The advanced off-road toolkit includes G-Turn for 720-degree on-the-spot pivots, G-Steering for a tighter turning radius, and G-Crawl, enabling ultra-slow speeds as low as 2 km/h for precision manoeuvring. Adding to its rugged prowess, the SUV offers a water-wading depth of 850 mm.

Key tech includes MBUX augmented reality navigation and Electric Dynamic Select, offering five drive modes and five levels of recuperation.

Under the hood, the G580 packs a 116kWh battery powering four independent electric motors, delivering 587hp and 1,164Nm torque. Mercedes says the car has a 473km WLTP range and rapid charging from 10% to 80% in just 32 minutes.

The Mercedes G 580 Edition One will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
