Ever wished you could just tell your computer to sort things out and have it actually do it across all those fiddly apps you use? Well, the brainy bunch at Merlin AI reckon they've cracked it with their new MCP Plugin. Apparently, MCP (Merlin Control Platform) lets you hook up your digital haunts like Google Docs, Sheets, Notion, Jira, Slack, and a whole digital shedload more (some 20+ apps) and then get Merlin AI to play digital ringmaster with just one little nudge.
The idea's quite simple, you tether your apps together just the once, and then Merlin AI becomes this central brainbox, shuffling your precious data and making things happen between them based on your instructions. Need to whip up a report in Docs using those numbers in Sheets? Sorted. Need to update that Jira ticket based on your Notion scribbles? Done. Want to lob a summary over to your Slack chums? Bob's your digital uncle.
These Merlin bots have also been having a bit of a laugh over on X with their AskMerlinAI bot (@AskMerlinAI). This cheeky little thing conjures up images on X with just a single prompt. Apparently, it's been causing a bit of a stir, with folks getting it to dream up all sorts of bonkers visuals featuring the likes of Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
So, how do you get your digital mitts on this MCP magic? Easy peasy. Point your browser to Merlin AI's chat, poke around in ‘Merlin Labs’ on the sidebar to enable MCP, get your favourite apps all connected, type your command into the chat, and then, hey presto, your workflow should be automating faster than you can say “context switching is a productivity killer".
They reckon this'll put an end to all that flipping between tabs nonsense, freeing up your precious brainpower for the stuff that actually matters. Sounds rather tempting, doesn't it? Whether it's the productivity Messiah we've all been waiting for remains to be seen, but the thought of one little instruction ruling all our digital kingdoms is certainly an amazing one.
