Meta launches their first high-end VR device Quest Pro with better sensors and latest processor

Meet the new Meta member

If you are aware about the fast evolving world of virtual reality you wouldn’t dare to disagree that we are heading towards a time where VR hardware would become as ubiquitous as laptops and tablets are today. The tech giants know it too and that’s why they are getting their ducks in the row. How do we know? Meta just launched the entrée device for their new high-end line of advanced headset - the Meta Quest Pro.

A consequential upgrade over the Quest 2, this virtual reality headset is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2-Plus processor, has 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. It is equipped with high-res outward-facing cameras that, as per the company, can capture four times more details (as compared to Quest 2) for full-colour mixed reality experience. Its ‘stereoscopic mixed reality Passthrough’ feature combines the multi-sensor views to create a natural view of the world in 3D for an enhanced mixed reality experience. Plus, this headset has an open periphery design which lets users easily switch between real and virtual worlds.

Meta also promises that the Quest Pro is the first headset from the brand that sports inward-facing sensors to capture natural facial expressions and eye-tracking so your Avatar will have facial expressions just like yours. If you smile they do too!

The Meta Quest Pro has Pancake lenses that fold light several times over, reducing the depth of the optical module by 40% while providing clear and sharp visuals. It is because of these lenses that the Quest Pro is the slimmest Meta device ever made.

Its two LCD displays use local dimming and quantum dot technology for richer and more vivid colors. The brand says they have made a custom dimming solution that controls more than 500 independent LED lights increasing the contrast by over 75%.

Moving on to the Meta Quest Pro’s controllers, looks-wise they are pretty different from those of Quest 2’s. There are three built-in sensors in each controller that track their position in 3D space independent of the headset, allowing a full 360-degree range of motion and ensuring stable tracking across all of your VR apps.

Taking the brand’s word for it, these controllers are designed in a manner that they (the controllers) feel like an extension to your hands. They are laced with upgraded haptics using the new TruTouch Haptics system to provide a wider and more precise range of feedback. You also get stylus tips, a charging dock and partial light blockers that are magnetic and help in making the experience more immersive (when you want to avoid mixed reality).

Along with the launch of Meta Quest Pro, The company also announced a partnership with Microsoft to make new work and productivity tools for Meta Quest Pro as well as Meta Quest 2 beginning next year, including apps for Microsoft Windows 365 and Microsoft Teams.

This VR headset comes with a price tag of ₹1,43,806.
