Meta will also start a paid subscription service for the blue tick on Instagram and Facebook

Putting price, reducing value?

Selling blue ticks seems to have done well for Twitter, thus, jumping on the bandwagon now is Meta. Yes, you read it right! You can buy the blue tick on Facebook and its stablemate Instagram, and become a verified user even if you have followers in two digits (or one digit). However, we wonder if it would only prune the worth of what was once the ‘esteemed’ blue tick.

The new subscription service is called Meta Verified and it comes at a cost of $11.99 (approx ₹990) a month. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook-parent Meta, in a post on Facebook and Instagram, wrote, “This week we're starting to roll out Meta Verified -- a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support. This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services."

The subscription, currently, is being tested in Australia and New Zealand at $11.99 (around ₹990) per month on the web and $14.99 (around ₹1,240) per month on iPhones. Stay tuned with us to get more updates on Meta Verified and when it comes to India.
