The MG Windsor EV has been launched in India, which offers a unique approach to electric vehicle and battery ownership in the country. Priced at an introductory price of Rs. 9.99 lakh onwards in India (ex-showroom), the MG Windsor EV can be purchased without ownership of the battery, which car buyers can then rent from MG depending on usage. This will bring the cost of the car down, and also offer some assurance for buyers who might be concerned about battery degradation and the cost of replacement over time.
The company's first new launch since announcing the partnership with JSW, the Windsor EV is the third electric vehicle in the brand's product range, following the ZS EV and Comet. The Windsor EV is available in three variants and four colours.
Interestingly, the MG Windsor EV comes with a different approach to battery ownership and utilisation, touted as industry-first initiatives for EV ownership in India. MG pitches this as 'battery-as-a-service', where owners can rent the battery at a price going as low as Rs. 3.5/km of running. Other offerings include lifetime warranty with unlimited kilometres on the battery for the first owner, assured battery buyback schemes, and free public charging for one year after purchase.
